2011 Safety Director of the Year
Karl A. Geist Steve Kent Trucking, Inc. LMTA’s 2011 Safety Professional of the Year, Karl Geist with Steve Kent Trucking, has an outstanding commitment to safety and is well respected among his peers and the enforcement community. He is currently involved in every facet of safety in his company – including DOT compliance, driver training, accident investigation, CDL testing and much more. Karl is a Defensive Driving and Petroleum Education Council instructor, a CDL examiner, as well as a DOT, HAZCOM and Forklift Safety trainer. Karl Geist is a member of the BP Safety Committee, the American Society of Safety Engineers and is very active in all of the LMTA Safety Management Council events. He received the Louisiana Workers Compensation Partners in Safety Award. Karl and his wife Carolyn have one daughter Katie and they reside in Houma, Louisiana. Lonnie Bennett of Con-way Freight is the LMTA 2010 Safety Professional of the Year. Lonnie is well respected among his peers and company management. Safety is his utmost priority. Lonnie Bennett began his trucking career as a truck driver but it soon became evident that he had great potential in the safety field. Lonnie maintained an impeccable safety record as a driver with no preventable accidents and continues that trend as a Safety Manager through the guidance he gives each and every driver he works with on a daily basis. Even with the stresses inherent to this position and the current environment, Lonnie maintains one of the most positive attitudes you’ll even encounter – always offering to help. Lonnie enjoys and thrives on his career as a Safety Manager…seeking challenges and opportunities to make his job more meaningful to himself as well as others that he works with. Allen Harrison of Wal-Mart Transportation in Opelousas, LA is our 2007 SafetyProfessional of the Year. Allen has held various jobs involving safety and transportation throughout his professional career. He holds several safety certifications including motor fleet safety, accident investigation, NATMI, and applies this knowledge as he coordinates his company’s safety and instruction program. In this capacity, Allen willingly takes the time to help drivers climb to the next level of expertise and ultimately return home safely. Allen is very active in the LMTA Safety Management Council and does an incredible job of laying out a challenging obstacle course for the drivers competing in the Truck Driving Championships each year. Allen Harrison is a native of Arkansas, with an associates degree in Business Management. Now a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, he and his wife Carrie have a combined total of 6 children and 3 grandchildren. His hobbies include fishing, golf, antique shopping and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and Arkansas Razorbacks. |
